Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a diverse ethnic background. Her father Elroy Fernandez is of Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is Malaysian. Jacqueline is the youngest of two siblings and has an older brother. The 80s were the time when her parents fled to Bahrain in protest against the civil war over Sri Lanka. In the end, she was both born and raised in the country. After graduating from school in Bahrain she was awarded the Scholarship at the University of Sydney to pursue the Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. She went to an institute called the Berlitz school of languages that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. In 2006 she was named Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed for Miss Universe 2006. In the wake of her winning the 2006 Miss Sri Lanka win, Padukone made her debut on television and hosted a show about Sri Lankan Business called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father was a badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has been born in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. When she was in her teens, Padukone competed in badminton championships at national and international levels. But, she resigned from the sport in order to pursue a career as designer. Padukone was born in Mangalore in India. Her mother tongue Konkani is her origin. Her lineage hails from Padukone village located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District in the State of Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone has retired as an international badminton player Her mother, on the other hand, is also a travel consultant.
